i'm soooorrryyyy....

.....that I've been MIA for the last few days! School and life have me so busy right now, and I can't WAIT until my week's vacation at the beginning of May (is it really still a whole month away?!). I really don't have anything too exciting to update you on, life has pretty consistantly been made up of assignments and sleeping.

I do have a few posts in the works for the next few days (another blog friend feature, and this week's edition of lo's favourite's, and hopefully a nice weekend post about something fun/interesting). But for now, I appologize for my blog silence, and will fill the space with a few pics of what I wore out to dinner last night. Once again, the wonderful Man took these pics, and I AGAIN appologize for the lack of inspiring surroundings. It's that funny spring time right now where nothing has grown yet and everything looks a littel dreary. Also, my landlord needs to do a little clean-up in our backyard (when the snow melted, we discovered a blue kiddie pool in our backyard?!). So, without further a-do....

1970's fur and leather jacket passed down from my aunt, to my mom, to me.

One-peice romper from Dear Creatures. It's actually shorts!!
Black turtleneck shirt from H&M.

Vintage cameo pin that can also be used as a pendant for a necklace (haven't found the right chain yet).

Vintage belt and vintage "peasant" heels.

stay gold

So remember when I posted that mysterious photo of the gold bag? Well I promised today that I would let you know what was in it. GOLD SHOES! They are a soft leather, and from the 1940s. The legend is that these shoes were once worn my Carmen Miranda (not sure if that's actually true, but kind of a fun idea anyway!)

I thought I would put together a nice little gold-inspired outfit and share with you these fabulous shoes. My wonderful boyfriend did a quick photo shoot for me this morning in the ally-way behind his apartment (so classy) before he had to run off to work (thank you darling boy!).

1960s vintage boiled wool and fur jacket.

The fabulous gold shoes!

Printed yellowy-gold vintage mod dress.
Admiring my shoes! Accessories: vintage cameo broach, gold and white necklage from Ardene's.

One more look!

lo's favourites 6

Yay! I think this may be my favourite edition of Lo's Favourite's yet. I love LOVE this weeks finds. Everything is so bright and colourful and putting me in a cheery spring mood (despite the fact that we had a huge snowstorm yesterday).

This Monty chair in Dandelion Mobile print by Nathan and MissPrint.

Inside Out Bowls from Anthropologie

Amazing vintage wallpaper lamp-shades from When in Doubt Draw Flowers.

CUPCAKE FONDU!!!! I really want to have this at my next party. This idea is from Bake it Pretty.

I love this entire outfit from tinytoadstool, but really it's the poncho-like jacket that kills me...and with a BELT! Oh my word. Ok, time to go poncho and belt shopping.

Oh, and don't forget to come by tomorrow to find out what's in the bag from yesterday's post. Hint: the item(s) match the colour of the bag...

So check out this lady's sunny, lemony blog...and try not to faint from all the super cute cat photos.

Also, as a a side-note...I am planning a post for later this week featuring a pair of amazing new shoes that I am purchasing tomorrow! Get excited, because they are worth the excitement!

Happy Friday! I definitely have had a fabulous Friday so far. And the weather was amazing! My mom arrived yesterday for a little visit, and today our friend Michelle came into the city to do a little paper shopping for her up coming wedding and for a little mini post-engagement celebration (yay!). Here's a little peek at my day.

lo's favourites 5

As I was putting together all the photos for this week's favourites post, I realized that they all make me feel a little romantic. Maybe I have romance on the mind? Never a bad thing, I say! We could all use a little more romance in our lives. So here are this week's favs:

These lovely vintage-style prints by Simply Hue

This little pinafore dress from Topshop. (Which is coming to Toronto!!)

Boys in cute, fun bowties! The ties on the right are from Forage Designs.
Saw this quote and immediately thought of RB and I, and how weird we are. Seems appropriate!

Hope you enjoyed this week's favs! I certainly enjoyed discovering them!

thom dolan

Back again! As the weather is progressively (and mockingly) getting warmer and sunnier, I have more summer fashion on the mind. Allow me to introduce you to Thom Dolan and his spring/summer 2011 collection! His newest collection features some simple, light, and easy summer looks. These outfits are perfect for riding a bicycle in, or for going to the beach. And I love the styling, with the scuffed-up looking shoes and the old-west style ties. Cute little additions! Need to keep those in mind when I'm compiling my next outfit!

These are the kind of clothes that are perfect to throw on when you are in the mood for something light and uncomplicated. Check out more of Thom Dolan's stuff on his website. He even has a few cute bathing suits! So start getting inspired by these little items, cause summer is on her way!

blog friend: ali

I know, I'm a week behind..eee. The end of last week and over the weekend was Canadian Music Week here in Toronto, and I was busy busy running around seeing the boy play and other bands. I feel like I've been sucking at the blogging, but I have a few post ideas stashed away in my brain, but haven't had the time to actually do any them. So this week I'm starting out with another blog friend feature!

This time its my friend Ali, a super talented lady. Ali and I met at church and she's a lovely gal. And I have to tell you, this girl can SING! And she plays the fiddle, which equally as awesome! Ali played a few times over Canadian Music Week, and is working towards having a full-time music career. She loves spending time with her husband, referred to as "Mr. Beard" on her blog, and her two lovely kitties!

Ali's blog is all about her life, music, her cats...basically anything in her life that she feels compelled to write about. She has a really cute sense of humour, which is evident by the name of her blog "Not Hip Enough to Blog". Check it out here and get to know her a little!

all-time top 5 favourite albums

I know that I've been doing a weekly favourites post, but today my friends and I were brainstorming our favourite books and albums. This made me think of one of my favourite movies, High Fidelity, and its "Top 5" lists. So I guess this is another favourites post, but with some of my long-time record loves.

These two albums hold lots of memories. Left and Leaving by The Weakerthans is my number one all-time favourite album. I discovered this album when I was in high school and it opened me up to a whole new world of music. It was my first great musical education album. There is also a great memory of RB and I lying on his living room floor one summer and belting out ever.single.lyric.to.every.single.song. on this album. Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie just holds alot of sentimental value from summers in highschool and beyond and is something I can listen to and never get tired of. These two albums are in my Top 5 because I find them both incredibly relateable.

London Calling by The Clash and Clarity by Jimmy Eat World were two other mind-blowing music experiances for me. Once again, these albums provided the beginning of my foray into the world of truely GREAT music. London Calling is a classic punk album with some very historical and groundbreaking songs. It therefore deserves a special spot in my Top 5 list. Clarity was another high school discovery, and I truely feel like this album was ahead of its time when it was released (1999). There is so much about it that I think has influenced many of the indie bands that we hear today. And how can you deny that Goodbye Sky Harbour is an incredible song?!

The last album on my list (and certainly not the last) is the most recent album on my list. High Violet by The National was an easy choice to put on this list though. Even though there isn't as much history behind this album, as it was only released last spring, it is so incredible. Its one of those albums where it takes you by surprise by about the third or fourth listen. It becomes more and more valueable the more you listen to it. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it!

I listen to SO much music and I go through phases with favourites, but this list is made up of my go-to albums. These five records I will NEVER get tired of. If you haven't heard any of them yet, you really should. But one warning, once you let them into your life, they'll get under skin and never leave.

lo's favourite's 4: the lace edition

I'm SO in love with lacy things right now. Not only is it a trend for this spring, but it's just generally lovely. There's something so soft and romantic about lace, and I'm exciting to hunt down some lovely lacy pieces for my wardrobe. I have also found some other lace inspired items for the home, some you can purchase and some you can do yourself.

Doily coasters and clock from Common, a great Etsy shop.
Crafty ideas! Lacy envelopes and mason jar candle holders.
Pretty lacy top from Anthropologie.

Lovely lace-inspired bowl from Hideminy, and a really creative hanging lamp idea.
Gorgeous vintage 1950's lace dress. I would so get married in this.

bread and roses

It's International Women's Day! This year, we also celebrate the 100th anniversary of this day honouring women around the world. Yay ladies!

IWD was started in Germany in 1911. This was as a result of protests over working conditions.

Today, I'm thinking about the "bread and roses" march in New York in 1912. Women workers in the Lawrence Textile Company went on strike. Their slogan, "bread and roses", was an appeal for both fair wages and dignified working conditions.

The struggles of these women, and many more who fight for equal rights and treatment around the world, are an inspiration to us. As women, we should be proud of the advances that we have made in society. I feel so proud and blessed to have the opportunities that I have today. But I also remember the millions of women around the world who are still fighting for their basic rights.

So let's celebrate the ladies today, and remember those who came before us!

lo's favourites 3

Another addition of my favourite discoveries from this week! I've been insanely busy this week and haven't had alot of time to dedicate to blogging, but I thought at least I could show you some of my little inspirations that I discovered over the last few days.

I remembered that my sister and I used to make dyed eggs with my mom every year for Easter when we were young. Haven't done them in years, and want to try a more advanced version this spring. Get the directions here.
Omg. Owl cookies.
More owl cookies. Love this idea!
I heart these platforms from Koshka. Would be perfect with a 70s print dress.
Cupcakes in a jar!! This is ingenious. Check out the recipe and how-to on the lovely blog Cakies.
