my top 5 oscar looks

I didn't get a chance to actually watch The Oscars last night (and truth be told, I often don't watch the full program anyway), but I always love the fashion that the night inspires. Here is my little list of top 5 looks from the evening!
1.
Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel

2.
Rooney Mara in Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci

3.
Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli

 4.
Natalie Portman in Vintage Christian Dior Haute Couture (1954)

5.
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

I loooovveee what Michelle Williams wore, and I dub her the best dressed of the night (for my list anyway!)
Which dress did you like the most? What did you think of the fashion from last night?

vibrant

This winter has been very "un-canadian" like and has been more cloudy and wet than snowy. And personally, I'm ok with that. But I have still missed the sun. Yesterday brought a nice treat with milder temperatures and some gorgeous sun! I felt that I needed to dress in bright, happy colours in order to reflect the weather outside, so I put on one of my favourite pieces, which always puts me in a good mood!

Making myself work appropriate with a brown blazer from Forever 21. Bag is handmade leather from Honduras.

Pink hair bow from Ardene's.

1970's vintage print dress.

Close up of the print on my dress.

Fav wedge shoes from Spring.

Excuse me while I try and avert static cling.
I'm hoping that with the mild winter that we've had here in Toronto it means that spring is just around the corner!

long weekend activities

Here in Ontario it is a holiday today....Family Day! I love long weekends because they provide a nice little reprieve from the usual schedule, but I also love the concept of a family day...a time set aside to spend with family and loved ones. Most holidays are family events, but I love the idea of an entire day dedicated to just that. My mom came to visit and helped me re-pot some of my house plants and also came with me on a little thrifting trip. So far this long weekend has been great, and I'm looking forward to spending today with my handsome man. Here's a little glimpse into what I've been up to this holiday weekend:

Polka-dot manicure!

Gluten-free cinnamon raisin bread!

Thrifted items: handmade crochet pieces, vintage framed pope poster, framed child print

Thrifted items: yellow porcelain egg cups, 1970's pottery mugs

My mom trimming down my Yucca plant

The little Yucca babies growing quickly!
It's hard to believe that I still have the rest of today for my long weekend. I've done so much already! I hope that you are having a great Family Day if you have this holiday, and if not I hope that you still get to spend time with some people you love!

Lo's favourite's 11

Haven't done a favorite's post in a loonngggg time. So here are some current favourite things in my life right now!

I LOVE this website. All kinds of neat information from DIY projects to fashion advice to fun recipes.

I HATE the smell of bleach, and I'm always looking for more environmentally friendly options. Here are some good suggestions from Tipnut using some natural items from around the house! Quick, easy, and natural!

Really fun and cute nail art! I'm going to get this done soon.

More Lauren Conrad (note a theme here?). This is a beauty website called The Beauty Department with LC, Kristin Ess, and Amy Nadine. These girls give tips and tutorials all about various beauty techniques. Lots to explore here!

This is a recent tutorial I tried this out the other day from The Beauty Department, and it is really quick and easy. Great for mornings when you're in a rush but want to do something a little fun and different.

THIS HEEL from Modcloth. Drooolllllll

Flashback: 1960's

I've been finding myself endlessly searching for photos of 1960's fashion recently. I just can't enough of the hair, makeup, and clothes. It was a time of daring fashion right after the "prim and proper" 50's, and the mini-skirt was the featured rule breaker. The trends also bucked the previous form-fitting esthetic, allowing for looser, more comfortable clothes for women.  I'm so inspired by that era, and currently have the need to incorporate some more mod pieces into my wardrobe.

I really love this look, with the hair bows and the high-buttoned collars.

Lots of leg!

One trend from the 1960's that I absolutely LOVE are the extreme eyelashes.

Bright colours and daring patterns were a defining factor in 1960's fashion.

I love this hairstyle, as well as the simplicity of this outfit. The pattern on the dress speaks for itself, allowing for very minimal accessories.

You can't talk about fashion in the 60's without mentioning Twiggy. She was the mod icon of the time, and set trends for decades to come.

Hair and makeup were about being as large as possible.
