in-betweens (and giveaway winner)

Hiiii! Back from my little vacation from work (and from my blog apparently!) It's strange to be out of my regular routine for a long period of time, but a little change is always good :) It's also then hard to get BACK into a routine. Times of transition can be a little tricky to navigate sometimes!

Speaking of transitions and in-betweens, we're into real August weather here which means it's cooler in the mornings and at night, but still warm during the day, so getting dressed in the morning is a bit of a challenge. I've began doing a bit of layering with things that are easy to put on and take off as the temperature changes throughout the day. So the cardigans are coming out and I just bought a new pair of tights to start wearing under dresses again (kind of been missing the look of black tights!). I LOVE summer, but I must say I'm getting a little excited for some new fashion adventures as autumn draws closer.

urban escape

This week off from work has been pretty restful, and I think for that reason I haven't really done any outfit posts. I've just been laying low and visiting with family, which was really nice. Rob has taken a few days off as well, so yesterday we spent a lot of quality time together. We decided to trek out to High Park (Toronto's version of Central Park) for a picnic and a bit of exploring.  It feels like it is a bit of an escape from busy city life, with beautiful gardens, forest area, a lake, and hiking and walking paths. We realized that the last time that we did that was two years ago! It was a perfect afternoon for wandering High Park, and it was so nice to have uninterrupted time together.

introducing penelope joy

So if you're wondering why I've been a bit MIA the last little bit, it's because my niece has finally arrived, and I've been spending tons of time with the little lady! She was born August 11th at 1:14am. She is so much fun already, and pretty much the cutest baby ever!

I was able to be there for my sister for a good part of her labour. She started having contractions at midnight on Friday, and ended up being in labour for 26 hours by the time Penelope came. I stayed with Melissa and my brother-in-law at the house before we all went to the hospital, and supported them until my mom came around 5pm. Then we just waited in a lounge until we got to go in and see Penny at 3:30am. It was a long day, and at times it was really tough to see my sister in so much pain, but I was glad that I could be there to offer some help. And once Penny came, we forgot a lot of the rough parts. 

My sister did a great job, and I'm so proud of her. I'm also already addicted to being an auntie. I've taken this week off work, and am spending most of my time hanging out with the little gal. We even had a good long cuddle session yesterday. I think it's safe to say that you will be seeing pictures of Penny appearing on here from time-to-time!

icons of summer

Nothing says summer more to me than little floral dresses and walks in the park. This past weekend started out pretty hot here in the city, but cooled down in the mornings for Sunday and Monday. I'm starting to see little hints of autumn in the early mornings, and it's getting me a bit excited for tights and cozy sweaters. While I love summer and the heat, I'm ready for a bit of a change, and I love living in a country where we get to really experience the different seasons.

But for now, I'm going to appreciate my little summer dresses while I can.  :)

strangeness and charm

Happy Thursday lovelies! We have a long weekend coming up here, and with my office on summer hours (we close at 1pm on Fridays) I'm looking forward to some MUCH needed time off! I'm going to be celebrating my roomie's birthday, doing some thrift shopping, and hopefully a ton of reading (just started The Book of Negroes). And the fact that it's now August has me feeling like I need to cherish the summer days we have left.
